Spiritual Life

At WLA we cultivate an atmosphere of sharing life under the Gospel of Jesus as student and teachers learn more about faith together.

At Westlake Lutheran Academy, we tell our students each day that Jesus is their personal Savior who died on the cross to save them from their sins. The faculty and staff model this faith throughout the day and show how God can be found in all areas of study. The students hear Bible stories, learn memory verses, and actively pray with one another. Our goal is for students to become disciples who are able to share their faith with those around them.

What We Teach

In Early Childhood (Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, and K), students learn that Jesus loves them and is their friend. Teachers present age-appropriate Bible stories to help the children understand God's love and faithfulness.
In Lower School (Grades 1-5), students continue to develop their relationship with Christ by studying Old and New Testament Bible stories and memorizing scripture. Students gain more in depth knowledge as they help their class prepare to lead chapel services. They also study the Law and Gospel; confession and repentance; and forgiveness and grace.
In Middle School and High School (Grades 6-9), students begin experiencing emotional, physical and spiritual changes. We strive to make these, often challenging years easier to navigate with a strong faith and understanding of the Gospel.

An incredible practice of spiritual life is to gather in worship and praise together. Each week, students gather together in Chapel in order to further their relationship with God and each other. From worship songs and prayer to guest speakers and student-led presentations, these weekly gatherings are consistently a highlight of our week. Further, once a month, a weekly Chapel is also open for all families to come and join in celebration and teaching as an entire school community.

Just as we believe we belong in life together, we also believe we can change the world together. Now, more than ever, we are on a consistent mission to train students to have global awareness so they become compassionate, risk-taking, inclusive disciples of the world.

We have implemented weekly service projects that serve both our local and global community to enhance students’ global awareness and needs awareness. Such service projects have included making no-sew blankets for Hope Impacts (a local organization that serves the homeless), assembling Secret Santa gifts for our local county Meals on Wheels program, compiling gifts through Operation Shoebox (a global initiative to provide Christmas to children in need around the world), writing letters to service members in the military, and visiting local nursing homes.

Finally, annually in the fall, the entire school presents a Hero Project which highlights community service members, Texas/U.S./global scientists and heroes of history, revolutionaries, inventors, writers, and more! The students choose a hero and follow with research, dressing up, and creating artifacts for that hero, to display for all family members to enjoy. The students also create cover pages that display headings/subtitles that highlight facts about their hero along with the student dressed up as their chosen hero. It is one of our most beloved academic activities.
