Our Ideal Graduate

Students prepared for today.  With our outstanding faculty and challenging student expectations, Westlake will prepare our students to achieve at today’s challenges.  With a strong parent and faculty partnership, our students will be taught, cared for, nurtured, at home and school.

Students prepared for tomorrow.  It is predicted that 75% of jobs that today’s Kindergartners will have, haven’t yet been invented.  Students at Westlake will learn to read so they can read to learn. Our students will be prepared for the next level of school and of life as outstanding Christian leaders.

Students prepared for eternity.  It is the Spiritual that makes us different from the school down the street.  At Westlake, God’s Grace is the culture of our morals and values, lived and taught.

Our Vision

In early 2002 Lutheran Education Association of Houston (LEAH) leadership began visionary exploration for a new Westside Houston location.  Following extensive market and environmental research prime acreage was secured, funded, and is now ready for development.  That dream is now becoming a reality.  A PreK - 12th grade private Christian, college preparatory school is now being developed at the intersection of the West Park Tollway and the Grand Parkway.  The initial phase of Westlake Prep will open its doors in the fall of 2008.

Our Commitment - Westlake Lutheran Academy will continue in the prestigious tradition of Lutheran Schools in Houston and across America since colonial days.

Our Academics - We will be the academic school of choice in west Houston.  Our students will be well prepared for their next level of education including top-tier colleges and universities across the country.

Our Responsibility - We view your children as gifts from God -- your most important possession, and take the responsibility you have entrusted to us seriously.  Your child will be challenged and motivated to excel academically in a loving and caring environment.

Our Faculty - Teachers are core to facilitating learning.  Our master teachers know how to teach and view their occupation as a calling from God - not just a job.  They are passionate about: 1) excellence in their subject areas; 2) their love of students; and 3) connecting Sunday to Monday.

Our Partnership - Education doesn’t happen in a vacuum.  We foster the strong school - home partnership as participating allies in the total development of your child.

Our Community - You don’t have to be Lutheran to attend a Lutheran school.  In fact, over 50% of our school community is not Lutheran.

Our Pledge - Your child will be challenged to excel in math, excel in science, excel in .. but ultimately what matters most is that each and every one of our students be present at our alumni reunion in heaven.

Our Story

Ben is a typical 5-year old in motion and often is seen with Band-Aids covering his 'boo-boos'. He understands that when one has a 'boo-boo' putting Neosporin and a Band-Aid on it will bring healing. His parents do not have a church home or an active, vibrant relationship with Jesus. But Ben does. This is Ben's witness.

As the children were arriving, Mrs. Watson noticed that Ben's mom looked troubled. She looked as though she had been crying and needed to speak with someone. Mrs. Watson approached her to chat with her and to see if she could help. Ben's mom shared that Ben’s grandfather died unexpectedly of a heart attack. In sharing words of comfort Mrs. Watson asked if Ben knew.  A few more tears and this response: "Yes, and when he heard, he said 'It's ok mommy, granddad is in heaven and Jesus is putting lots of Neosporin on his heart right now.'"

Ben spoke the words of hope in Christ to his mom at a time when she most needed to hear them. Do children have the ability to understand God's grace - his complete healing of our lives because of the actions of Jesus on the cross?  We think so. And everyday, our Lutheran schools help students experience this gift from God. And everyday, these young missionaries are sent into the mission fields of their homes, families and community to speak the words of faith.
